Black Pepper
Black Pepper
Description
Black pepper is the spice that put India on the world's spice map. The ancient trade routes were built to procure this black gold from our country.
Black pepper is also called Milagu/kurumilagu/kali mirchi. Our black pepper comes from vines grown organically on fully organic farms in the higher altitudes of Kerala and Karnataka.
Bio Basics black pepper is grown organically, carefully harvested from the trees, and processed and stored naturally with no chemicals, additives, or colouring agents at any stage. The pepper is usually harvested between December and February. Mostly, the mature and ripe ones are partly sun-dried and partly shade-dried for many days before being securely stored for a whole year.
It comes from a third-party, organically certified farmer in Wayanad. It is a single-origin pepper consisting mainly of Panniyur and Karimunda varieties.
Second source of pepper is a third-party certified organic farmer producer group in Karnataka, which gets its organic pepper from certified organic farmers from Kerala & karnataka.
Nutritional Profile: It contains a moderate amount of iron, manganese, and other minerals. It has many medicinal uses and contains phytochemicals. The piperine in pepper makes the curcumin in turmeric bioavailable, thereby making these two highly medicinal spices an unbeatable combo.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, and dry place, properly secured in an airtight container. If exposed to light, pepper loses its oils and thereby its flavour. If stored properly, it can keep its aroma and pungency for quite a long time.
For pepper powder, crush/grind fresh for optimal flavour.
