Rooted deeply in Siddha medicine, Thanga Samba means “gold”—a name earned for its nourishing benefits and golden color. This rice has been grown for generations by Tamil Nadu farmers who parboil the grain with the husk intact, locking in vital nutrients. Grown organically and handled with care, it’s a traditional grain that supports stamina, immunity, and overall well-being.
Bio Basics Thanga Samba comes from a third party certified organic farmer producer collective in Pudukottai. This is grown by their member farmers and dried, par boiled and milled in their exclusively organic processing facility. The paddy is stored and then parboiled and the rice is freshly milled every month.

Supports Energy Metabolism: Rich in complex carbohydrates and B-vitamins, this rice provides slow-releasing energy, keeping you energized and full for longer.

Boosts Immunity & Cell Repair: Contains essential minerals like zinc and selenium, which support immune health and aid in cellular repair and protection.

Improves Digestion: Being semi-polished, it retains part of the bran layer, offering more dietary fiber than polished white rice—helping regulate digestion and improve gut health.

Promotes Bone Strength: A good source of magnesium and phosphorus, which are essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth.

Supports Heart Health: Parboiling retains water-soluble nutrients like vitamin B6 and potassium, which contribute to lower blood pressure and better cardiovascular function.

Regulates Blood Sugar: Its moderate glycemic index and higher resistant starch content (due to parboiling) help in better blood sugar control compared to regular white rice.

Encourages Healthy Skin & Hair: Contains trace minerals like iron and copper, which support oxygen transport in the blood and are vital for skin and hair health.

Naturally Gluten-Free: Safe for people with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease while being rich in traditional nutrition.

Store in an airtight container away from heat and moisture. Use within 4 to 5 months for the best flavor and nutrition.

For the best texture and digestibility, soak Thanga Samba rice briefly for an hour. When cooking in a pressure cooker, use 1 part rice to 2.5 parts water and cook on low heat for 10 to 12 whistles. Alternatively, cook on the stovetop and drain any excess water for fluffy, separate grains.

This versatile rice pairs beautifully with traditional South Indian dishes like sambar, rasam, and vegetable kootu. It also pairs deliciously with dal tadka, and is wonderful for a hearty rajma chawal or a delicious Kadhi.

Its nutty flavor also complements pulaos, biryanis, and even simple steamed rice bowls. Because it’s nutrient-dense, start with smaller portions—half the amount of your regular rice—and savor the wholesome nourishment in every bite.

How is Thanga Samba different from regular brown rice?
This is a semi polished par boiled rice unlike most brown rices which are unpolished raw rices. It gives it a nice firm texture when cooked and the rice is beautifully elongated.

Can I use Thanga Samba rice for dishes other than traditional South Indian meals?
Absolutely! Its nutty flavor and texture work well in pulaos, salads, rice bowls, and even fusion dishes and dishes like rajma chawal and kadhi chawal.

Why should I soak Thanga Samba rice before cooking?
Soaking reduces cooking time and improves digestibility, making it easier for your body to absorb nutrients.
