At Bio Basics, we are proud of how much we are led by women, both for our produce and our processes. It is almost a given, or the very second nature (or shall we say "first Nature") of Bio Basics to be led and managed by women! It is almost a social enterprise run by women, for women and of women!
Be it the farms we source from (where women farmers and women laborers play a vital role, as this is particularly so in organic farming). Women farm laborers are critical for de-weeding, particularly on organic farms. Walking into farms first thing in the morning, at around 7 am, with their lunch boxes packed for later in the day, the women farm laborers are so critical to ensure good yield, crop protection, and harvesting/processing.
Working until the height of afternoon, until about 2-3 pm, these women take back only ₹350 for the day in these parts. Just enough to keep their lives going.
Be it our processing facility at Coimbatore. Each packet of grains that is packed is freshly hand-cleaned for insects or stones that have managed to stay on despite the cleaning done at the farms or mills. Each packet is weighed, sealed, stickered, labelled and boxed by a team of women, maintaining the highest level of hygiene and care for the grain, the packet and the consumer.
Be it our team of managers (two women among our seven managers) managing the day-to-day operations, at the shop floor, leading other women prioritize and meet deadlines for our consumers. Leading customer interactions, speaking to the disappointed ones, or those seeking solutions among our grains, or simply supporting the customer deal with payments and such.
Or be it Devi, our Co-founder, who is our primary source of knowledge, experience, farmer relationships, inspiration and the very conscience of Bio Basics. The one who travels across the country meeting organic farmers, staying with them, eating with them, supporting them, advising them, sharing her knowledge and network for them to do a better job, and earn a better livelihood. The one who shares all this with any and all consumers seeking ideas, insights and much more for them to do a better job managing the food and health of their families.
And not to forget, each one of you women who keep coming back for more from Bio Basics, ensuring safe food for and good health of your entire family. Making sure NOT to compromise with either the food your family consumes or the health of the family you cherish so much.
Devi was honored on the occasion of International Women's Day 2026 as one of the 4 women selected for her contribution to sustainable agriculture and safe food. And she dedicates it to all the women on the organic farms across India.
To all the women out there, Happy Women's Day!
For us every day is Women's Day!
