Make your Summer Fragrant!

Here's yet another cheat idea to make this Summer heat bearable.

Last week, we showed how we can take curd rice to a totally new level of health and nutrition, while keeping ourselves cool during Summer, by using Barnyard Millet.
If you liked that idea, you'd love this one as well.

India is home to fragrant rices or scented rices. Not just basmati, but tons more.
We at Bio Basics offer over 10 rice varieties that are fragrant from different corners of India.

Aside from the fragrance that you'd absolutely love, and that will wow your friends and family any time of the year, these rices are usually raw rices and therefore super easy to cook.

So come April, in the heights of Summer, when we don't feel like cooking, this works very well. Takes just about 10 minutes to prepare.
And then combine with a light curry and some veggies, and you're done!

Take this plate for instance.
We have Illupaipoo Samba rice, sticky AND fragrant rice from Tamil Nadu.
As the name suggests, it carries the fragrance of Illupai (Mahua) flowers.
Spinach thoran (poriyal or steamed with grated coconut side) and Kabuli chana on the side.
Add a boiled egg if you feel like it.
And a light Tambuli curry (made from cucumbers and coconut).
Super light, refreshing and energizing during the hot days! Because it is so easy to digest.
Not recommending the heavy red rices for a change!

Here's a list of fragrant rices with us for you to try out:

Kerala: Jeeragashaala, Gandhagashaala, MullanKazhama
Tamil Nadu: JeeragaSamba, IllupaipooSamba
Chattishgarh: Javaphul, Nimphul
Maharashtra: Indrayini
Bengal: Govindabhog, Tulaipanji
