All year long, we recommend red & brown rices.
But when the mercury touches 35-40 degrees, it is time to revise our recommendations.
Summer is in full vigour now. Except the North East and some hills here and there, most cities in India are taking the heat (pun intended!)
At these times, one needs (and one feels like eating) something light to eat and lots to drink. Keep the mineral level in our bodies up, what with all the essential salts draining out with sweat. And keep the energy levels high, as the bodies fatigues faster spending energy keeping the body cool.
The body is adjusting to the heat. And it is our job to help our bodies.
How?
Eat light: Do not load the body with heavy food, so that energy can be saved
Reduce cooking: Cook meals easy to put together.
Salads come to mind obviously.
But white rices do too.
Three main advantages of White Rices:
1. Easy to cook. Most white rices take less than 10-15 in a rice/pressure cooker or an Instapot. Because it has less bran, so it cooks faster
2. Easy to eat and digest: One feels light after a meal of white rice. Because the digestion is almost immediate. Again because of limited bran. Giving you instant energy. Which you badly need right now.
3. Joyful to eat: Each of the white rices is delicious. The fragrant rices, more so.
And if your bodies are tuned to Nature, you will move to White Rices during this season, and step away from heavier bran-rices.
You can see the same reaction of our bodies when we are sick. We tend to eat kanji or rice gruel, or white rices, just to spend less time & energy on digestion, and get maximum energy per mouthful, especially when the appetite is poor.
My point?
Even White Rices have a space of their own. All we need to understand is how much of White Rice to consume and when.
That is what DIVERSITY is all about.
Nature changes over seasons, our bodies change over age, so why should what we eat the same food all year around.
We all live not in vacuum, but as part of the Gaia, a living being. So as the Earth or Environment changes, so will our food, clothing and our lives!
Check out the White Rices at our end and enjoy them as long your bodies crave for them. Then, one fine day, it will be time to go red, brown and black.
